Yes I was once one of those athletes who thought I was invincible. Gymnastics was my passion. It feels totally freeing to be able to throw one's body into the air. I was fortunate enough to compete and perform throughout my youth and as a collegiate athlete. After college I became the sole proprietor of Shasta Youth Gymnastics in Redding, California. As a gymnastics coach, I was fascinated by how the body moved in space. I loved working with children, teaching movement and body awareness.

Ten years and two babies later I began to teach fitness to adults. I soon found myself teaching a variety of fitness courses at community colleges in California’s San Francisco bay area. You name it, I probably taught it. High impact, low impact, strength conditioning, step, bike …. For the past 13 years I have been an A.C.E. certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leader.

SharonOver the years injuries that seemed minor in my youth began to catch up to me. With no cartilage left in one of my knees, I was forced to quit running. I recognized the need to change my exercise activities. I began searching for a fitness program that was healthy and not going to create more damage to my body. I began studying the science of core conditioning. The world of Pilates was brought to my attention by a fellow trainer at the gym. The body control needed for Pilates exercises reminded me so much of how what it was like to do gymnastics, only in a safer environment. I can honestly say if I had used Pilates core conditioning practices early in my life I would not have the injury obstacles I have today. Pilates is the program I need for the rest of my life.

Today I am a certified Pilates instructor through Stott Pilates Education. I have worked with hundreds of people in their quest to enhance their lives by safely improving their fitness level. For individuals who seek rehabilitative exercise, Pilates conditioning provides a coordinated interface with the Myofascial Release therapeutic techniques practiced at Balanced Physical Therapy. As a fitness routine for strength, coordination and core conditioning, Pilates is definitely worth the time and commitment to enhance a sport, your fitness, and your life.

Fitness and family have been my lifes passions.
When I’m not working at balanced Physical therapy you can find me in my garden, or with my family and friends.
