Darlene Santner, Physical Therapist
So do you have pain in your body? How does it affect your life? In a big way I am sure! I would love to assist you in discovering what is underneath the pain in your low back, your neck, your shoulder, and anywhere else in your body. Pain is your body’s way of communicating to you… and sometimes we need a little help from our friends to get through the pain to the other side….. aaaaaaahhhh relief!
I have always been fascinated by the wonderful healing process that occurs in the body when given the chance. I have worked in all sorts of settings here in the US and Switzerland. The theme has always been that healing happens, we just need to get in our bodies and enable it.
There are many variables in our lives that affect this process. What I have learned from working in various settings is that there is no one formula, nor quick fix. We are unique in the way we live our lives and we should be treated the same. This philosophy was validated when I first discovered Myofascial Release(MFR) fresh out of college. Thank goodness! After my first MFR class I knew this was the path I wanted to take for my own healing and helping others. I learned how to evaluate the WHOLE person 3-dimensionally in space. I also learned how to treat the person as one fluid fascial system for all that he/she encompasses in mind/body/spirit. I am grateful for my fundamental education in physical therapy school, but I always craved more than “science and formulas” for how to treat a body part. It was powerful for me to release the pressure of trying to “fix” people. I learned to quiet the mind, listen, and be present.
Since PT school I have volunteered at holistic retreats for several months where I studied yoga, meditation, dance/art therapy, nonviolent communication, peacemaker classes, nutrition, shamanism, etc with many great teachers. All of these have balanced out my science-based education and enabled a more holistic treatment approach.
I feel honored to be working at Balanced Physical Therapy with such a wonderful Team. We work together to support our clients in their healing process by listening and trusting the wisdom of their bodies. What an amazing service to provide within the healthcare system!
When I am out of the office, I am usually playing outside somewhere with friends…rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, swimming in the rivers....
